HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Students at Francis Asbury Elementary School in Hampton collected 26,000 bottle caps for a beautification project.

Most of the bottle caps were placed on the school’s mascot, a 10’ fox. Organizers told WAVY.com they hope the fox will unite the school.

“I hope the kids, when they come to school on Monday, and particularly the new kids at school, I hope they see it and think ‘We did that together, that’s our project and that it’s our school and not your school that we go to now,’ but a really united feeling for all of the students,” Stephanie Coyne with the PTA Beautification Committee said.

They used less than 2,000 bottle caps on the project and hope to come up with another idea this spring to use the remaining caps.
