HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A Hampton man's Honda Civic was stolen then returned the next day completely stripped of all of its parts.
According to the National Health Insurance Crime Bureau, the Civic is the most stolen car in America.
Doug Sample said his son's 2000 Honda Civic SI was parked along Londonshire Terrace the evening of Jan. 11.
"At seven in the morning his mother went out to pick up the newspaper and noticed the car was not there," Sample said.
Later that day, Sample found the car, ditched on Burton Road about two miles from home, stripped of its engine, seats, wiring and more.
"To find out someone just decided to take it from you, it's pretty disappointing," Sample said. "They were able to pry and get the window out if its track. They even took the wiper blades."
Sample's son plays on Old Dominion University's ice hockey team and his gear, which was in the Civic's trunk, was also stolen.
"We really have nothing now other than the shell of a car which will ultimately end up in a junk yard," Sample said.
Sample told WAVY.com the damage done by the thieves was not covered by insurance.
"I believe this was a professional job," Sample said. "My belief was that this was not the first time they did this. They need to pay the price. They need to be found and go straight to jail. They need to pay for the price for this."
