Suspects flee in missing man's truck

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A man and woman accused of shoplifting from a Hampton Home Depot left in a missing man's truck.

Police were called out to the business on N. Armistead Avenue at 12:35 p.m. on Feb. 17.

A Home Depot employee noticed two people attempting to steal tools and electronics and tried to detain them. The male suspect pulled out a box cutter and lunged at the employee, according to police. The employee was not hurt.

The suspects got away with the stolen goods. They have been identified as Darren Johnson, 45, and Wanda Dobbins, 42.

They were last seen fleeing in a 2011 black Nissan pickup truck with Virginia license plate XBN-1455. That truck belongs to 73-year-old Tommy Alley. He has been missing since Feb. 21. His family has filed a missing person report with Newport News police. At this time, police are not actively looking for Alley because they do not consider him endangered.

Alley's son, Charlie, said he doesn't agree with that decision.

"...if that's what they told you I'm going to get on the phone to them," Charlie said.

While Hampton police continue searching for the suspects, Charlie told WAVY.com he'll be searching for his dad.

"I just had my birthday and I was expecting my dad to be there," Charlie added.
