HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A Hampton man and "lottery rookie" won $100,000 in the Virginia Lottery's Cash 5 game.

According to lottery officials, John Tucker watched his co-workers play the Cash 5 game many times, but he didn't join them.

On Jan. 23, he told them he'd show them how to play and went to the 7-Eleven at 4009 Cedar Lane in Portsmouth to buy three tickets.

He selected the numbers for two of the tickets and used the Easy Pick for the third.

The winning ticket was the one for which he used the Easy Pick and allowed the computer to randomly select his numbers. Tucker matched all five numbers in the drawing that day.

As he claimed his prize, Tucker told lottery officials that he shared the good news with his wife and mother. "I don't keep good things a secret," Tucker said.
