HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A free document shredding event will be hosted in Hampton Saturday, Oct. 27.

According to John Brumbaugh with ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions, the event will be held starting at 10 a.m. at Langley Federal Credit Union, 1055 W. Mercury Blvd. in Hampton, and will last through 2 p.m. that day.

People are encouraged to bring sensitive documents to be shredded to protect themselves from identity theft.

"Identity theft can cause severe financial difficulties," Brumbaugh said. "Destroying documents with your personal information makes your identity more difficult to steal."

Brumbaugh says those bringing documents are limited three boxes of paper.
