HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Officials say a fire that displaced seven in Hampton Thursday evening may have been accidental.

According to Capt . Jeff Pereira with the Hampton Fire and Rescue Division, crews responded to 810 Weymouth Terrace to heavy smoke coming from all sides of the home at approximately 6:45 p.m .

Pereira said residents were home at the time of the fire and seven people have been displaced as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting them.

The fire originated in the bedroom area of the home and it appears to have been an accident.
