HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A house fire in Hampton Wednesday afternoon started in the kitchen.

Fire crews were called to the 3400 block of Hardy Ct. at 12:34 p.m. When they arrived, there was heavy smoke coming from the home. Firefighters quickly got the fire under control and investigators ruled it an accidental cooking fire, according to Capt. Jeff Pereira.

The person who was in the kitchen when the fire started was already safe outside the home when the fire department arrived, Pereira said.

The fire was contained to the kitchen.
