Catfish roundup a success in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - The sixth annual catfish roundup gave some special people a chance to catch some catfish and have a lot of fun in Hampton.

The 6th Annual Wheelin’ Sportsman Catfish Roundup welcomed disabled veterans, wounded warriors and everyone in the community with a disability Saturday afternoon. The goal wasn’t just to catch catfish, but to give everyone a chance to get out and fish.

Everything caught was thrown back, but no one went home hungry.

“We have fresh fish that we put in zippy bags so they can take them home and fry them,” Roundup organizer Jane Hobbs told WAVY.com. “We also provide lunches for everybody this year. So nobody goes away hungry, volunteers as well as the participants taking part in it.”

The group provided rods, reels, bait and lunch for free and dumped about $2,000 worth of live catfish in the lake to make sure everyone could catch one.
