Board recommends closing Hampton school

Public meeting being held November 7

HAMPTON,. Va. (WAVY) - Two public meetings will be held in Hampton to discuss the possibility of closing a Hampton school.

The School Consolidation Committee has recommended Cary Elementary School close its doors for the 2012-2013 school year. Cary Elementary is located at 2009 Andrews Blvd.

According to Carolyn Bowers with Hampton Public Schools, the closure is budget driven.

The first meeting will be held November 7 at Jones Magnet Middle School, at 1819 Nickerson Blvd., from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The public can also voice their concerns November 10 at Syms Middle School, 170 Fox Hill Rd., also from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
