FRANKLIN, Va. (WAVY) - Ground was broken Wednesday for a wood pellet manufacturing company in Franklin.

Enviva will be producing pellets used to create sustainable energy when burned, and will bring about 70 jobs to the area.

"Any time you can generate this kind of economic impact short-term and long-term it's a great day," Lt. Governor Bill Bolling (R-Va.) said. "No part of Virginia deserves it more than Franklin and Southampton County "

Enviva is the leading manufacturer of processed biomass fuel in the United States and in Europe.

The factory is set to open some time next year.
