NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Greyhound Bus Station in Newport News was robbed Wednesday and the suspect is still on the run, police spokesperson Lou Thurston told WAVY.com.
Thurston said a masked gunman, dressed in black from head to toe, came into the station in the 14400 block of Warwick Boulevard just before noon. He took the clerk to the back, made her take off all her clothes and sexually assaulted her, according to Thurston. The suspect left the clerk in the back, then stole the money out of the register and took off.
The clerk was the only person working in the building.
Timothy Stokes, manager of Media Relations for Greyhound, issued the following ststement:
"At approximately 11:50 a.m. a Greyhound agency, located at 14407 Warwick Blvd., was robbed at gun point. Unfortunately an agent was assaulted during the incident. This agent was transported to Riverside Regional Hospital for treatment.
At our Greyhound stations we have security cameras, with some locations having security guards. In select locations we also have random wanding. The security of each agency is dependent on the decisions of the individual agent. The safety and security of our employees and anyone who works on behalf of our company is our top priority. We are working closely with the authorities and our thoughts are with our agent. We wish to ask that their privacy be respected during the investigation of this incident."
