NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The 28th Annual Grand Illumination Parade held Saturday night in Downtown Norfolk kicked off  the holiday season in Hampton Roads.

The parade was part of an annual celebration to mark the illumination of the holiday lights on the Downtown Norfolk and Portsmouth skylines. This year's theme was Storybooks Live.

The parade showcased marching bands, cheerleaders, and even horses as they marched through the Downtown area.

Norfolk and Portsmouth will also feature six weeks of Holidays in the City. Some of the featured events in Norfolk include the Ice Palace and Photos with Santa, the Winter Carnival and MacArthur on Ice, all at MacArthur Center from Nov. 17 – Jan. 21.

In Portsmouth, Winter Wonderland-Coleman Collection can be seen at the Portsmouth Art and Cultural Center in Olde Town from November 23–December 31 (closed December 25).

You can visit NowPlayingDN.org  to view a full calendar of performances, activities, events, and more in both cities.
