NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The first bald eagle egg of the season hatched Thursday afternoon at the Norfolk Botanical Garden , almost 39 days after the first egg was laid in a snow-filled nest, the garden reported.

First evidence of the hatchling occurred at about 1:10 p.m. The Botanical Garden said the adult eagles were "diligent" in incubating the egg, which was laid the day after the Hampton Roads area received more than a half-foot of snow.

Two more eggs were laid soon after -- on February 3 and February 6. The eagles and the hatchling can be seen in person by visiting the Norfolk Botanical Garden .

This is the seventh year this pair of bald eagles has nested at the Norfolk Botanical Garden.
