Eastern Shore sees 38 arsons in 40 days

ACCOMAC, Va. (WAVY) - Volunteer firefighters in Accomack County worked their 38th arson in the last 40 days Sunday night.
Accomack County dispatchers said crews responded to the fire at an abandoned building at 18192 Mappsburg Road in the town of Painter. The call came at 8:29 p.m.
State Police confirmed an arsonist set an equipment garage containing only a boat on fire. No one suffered injuries.
On Saturday night, county fire crews worked an arson to an abandoned building with no electricity in the 25000 block of Parksley Road in the town of Accomac. The night before, they fought a fire at an abandoned home on Front Street in the town of Accomac.
State Police held a news conference Friday afternoon to discuss several of the fires they said were started by a serial arsonist. Investigators said they believed the arsonist was an Accomack County resident.
