DSS taking fuel assistance applications

RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) - The Virginia Department of Social Services is now accepting applications for fuel assistance through the Energy Assistance Program.

Applications are being accepted through Nov. 9 and must be filed through an applicant’s local department of social services .

To qualify, a one-person household’s maximum gross monthly income cannot be more than $1,211. That income level rises for a family of four to $2,498.

“With cooler temperatures predicted this winter, many Virginians will be facing higher heating costs,” VDSS Commissioner Martin D. Brown said. “Fuel Assistance can help reduce home heating costs by supplementing a portion of annual heating expenses. Many of our most vulnerable citizens are already struggling financially, so we’re encouraging them to submit an application, as soon as possible, to their local department of social services.”
