VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia Beach Police said a 4-year-old boy was bitten in the face by an akita Friday night.
Michelle Smith, the child's mother, called WAVY.com Saturday afternoon. She said she and her son, Johnny Dillow, were at attending a birthday party at a home in the 1000 block of Thompkins Lane. The akita attacked her son when he tried to pet it in the kitchen.
Medics took Dillow to a Norfolk hospital were he underwent plastic surgery and received more than 50 stitches, she said.
Medics reported the boy suffered several puncture wounds on the face. The bleeding stopped before they transported the boy to the hospital, police said.
The dog was up to date with its shots, and the akita will be quarantined at the home.
There have been no other incidents with the dog biting anyone else, police said.
