Decker's family hoping for arrest

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - As the search for his killer continues, folks gathered to remember slain Norfolk Police Officer Victor Decker. Two different events were held this weekend in Virginia Beach to help out Officer Decker's family.

"That's my only son," said Victor Decker's mother Marcia Schomburg. "You can't replace a child."

The pain Schomburg feels is a pain felt by many. The loss of Norfolk Police Officer Victor Decker has impacted an entire area.

"When it came to things, he was very compassionate with people," Schomburg added. "He was there for anybody who needed anything at anytime. He was there for them."

Saturday, the community gave back to the Decker family. Inside Q-Master in Virginia Beach, they're not only playing pool, but pooling money to make sure Decker's little girl has a future.

Officers are still on the streets searching for Decker's killer. For family there are so many unanswered questions.

"I make up all kinds of scenarios in my head," Schomburg added. "When you don't know what happened you doubt things. It's chronic pain, because your mind never stops with this."

On the other side of the city, bikers stopped by the spot on Oceana Boulevard where Decker lost his life.

"It's not just a job, it's not just a paycheck, it's a calling and he answered the calling," said Norfolk Police Officer Dave Baker.

The ride is part of a poker run.

"I've done several rides like this and this is the biggest turn out I've ever seen," added biker John Hines.

And at the same time the community is raising money, while also raising awareness in the case.

"I think it's great," Baker said. "Vic would appreciate it."

It's all in hopes of finding the suspect and easing a mother's indescribable pain.

"Can you put it into words?" Schomburg asked. "I don't think so. The only reason why I'm in front of this camera now is hoping somebody will see it and come forward."
