Council approves environmental center

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Tuesday night, the Virginia Beach City Council approved what is being called the most environmentally sustainable building in Virginia be built at Pleasure House Point.

According to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) the Brock Environmental Center will meet the "Living Building Challenge;" a set of stringent standards for the facility to have a "net zero" impact on the environment during its construction and daily operations.

The project is worth $20 million.

The center will also house environmental education programs for children and will take up one acre of the 118 recently-preserved acres at Pleasure House Point.
