POQUOSON, Va. (WAVY) - The Poquoson tree and lawn company that employed the 14-year-old boy who was killed in a wood chipper accident in November was issued a citation from the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry to pay a total penalty of $185,000.
Frank Anthony Gornik, a student at Poquoson High School and employee of the Old Dominion Tree & Lawn Care company, was killed while shoveling debris into a wood chipper. Following the incident, Poquoson police said the shovel got caught and the blades pulled him into the machine.
The citation, that was issued Monday, May 17, lists about 20 total violations from the company, regarding safety checks of its machines, regular performance maintenance repairs, among other violations.
Some of the penalties listed have to be paid by Friday, others by June 6.
