NORFOLK, Va (WAVY) - Thousands of runners and walkers hit the streets Saturday morning in Norfolk to help the children of Hampton Roads.
It was the seventh annual CHKD RunWalk for the kids and WAVY TV, FOX 43 and The Hampton Roads Show were proud to be sponsors of this event.
There were 145 teams, which included nearly 3,000 participants who either ran or walked in the Town Point Park event. That's a record high.
There was an 8K, 2 Mile walk and a 1 mile fun run for kids.
The event raised more than $100,000. Kings Daughter's President Kathryn Callahan told WAVY.com the money will be used to buy equipment. "Right now we're focusing on cardiology," she said. It is also a way to promote healthy living and exercise among children in our community she added.
CHKD opened as an 88-bed hospital 51 years ago. Today the pediatric health system has ambulatory surgery centers, outpatient health centers and pediatric practices serving every corner of the region.
