NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Children aren't old enough to drive, but that didn't stop them from having fun with a car on Tuesday.

The Hyundai Hope on Wheels program could mean happier days are headed to cancer stricken children at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters.

The hospital received a $40,000 grant from local dealers to help with childhood cancer research.

The young patients also got to participate, plastering their hand prints onto a car to remember the day.

"I had a lot of fun putting my handprint on the car and my dad's head and Dr. Lowe's head. It was fun," said cancer patient Ayonta Holland.

Ken Bloech with Hyundai Motor America said, "It's really a joint function with the dealers in the Tidewater area, the Hyundai dealers. They're the ones that work with the children's hospital and create the donations that the hospital gets."

Since the beginning of the Hope on Wheels program in 1998, Hyundai has pledged $42 million for childhood cancer research.
