CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - The Baptist Rock Church in Chesapeake was vandalized sometime overnight, according to Reverend Robert L. Eason.
Eason is a pastor at the church. He told WAVY.com he found the church in disarray Thursday.
Vandals somehow got into the church and overturned furniture, spray painted graffiti all over the church and even stole audio equipment, Eason said.
The thieves also ransacked the church using a fire extinguisher to deface the carpet and furniture.
"I used to look at the idea that it was somebody that was just thinking about themselves," said Rev. James Smith.
Smith said maybe it was someone in need. If so, he said all they needed to do, was ask.
"I'd rather give you and let you have, then you go on with your life," said Smith.
In spite of everything that happened, the pastor of the church said he hopes whoever did it will come back - only this time he hopes they use the front door to get in.
"We'd be glad to have them. We'd be glad, whatever they have done and however it was done. If we can say, do and carry them in a way we would love it," said Smith.
Smith said that's why they are here. After all, it is a place for redemption.
A similar incident was reported last June . In that case, five children ages 10 and under were charged.
