CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A date has been set for the trial of a Chesapeake teacher accused of simple assault against a student.
Tara Harris, a special education teacher at Butts Road Intermediate School in Chesapeake, will go on trial Nov. 27.
Stephanie Bennett claims Harris twisted her daughter’s arm because the girl could not do a lesson on Muslim hand signals correctly. Bennett claims the girl’s finger was cut as a result.
Harris’ husband, Dale, told WAVY.com the allegations are not true and his wife does not even practice the religion. Harris said his wife does not teach Muslim lessons to the class.
Bennett declined WAVY.com’s request for an interview.
