CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A 13-year-old boy accused in the shooting death of a 12-year-old girl pleaded guilty to manslaughter Tuesday afternoon.
The teen also faced a possession of a firearm by a juvenile charge, however, that was nolle prosequi.
On Jan. 10, Chesapeake police were called to the Owens Village Apartment Complex on Geneva Avenue for reports of a young girl suffering from a gunshot wound. Carolyn "Cee Cee" Walker, 12, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police told WAVY.com the gun was obtained from another child, who took the weapon without their parent's knowledge.
Prosecuting attorney David Whitted said the teen admitted he didn't want to harm Cee Cee but was playing a game of "Russian roulette," a claim the girl's mother finds hard to believe.
"[Cee Cee] feared guns, so there was no such thing as her playing Russian roulette," mother Lisa Walker said. "When they got the reports back, she had no fingerprints or anything on the gun."
The teen will be sentenced on Aug. 23.
