CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Police are investigating a school bus accident in Chesapeake that sent 19 people to the hospital.

Tyler Finnerty, a spokesperson for Chesapeake General Hospital, told WAVY.com that all the patients are stable and expected to be okay. Some of the students that were seen, were transported to the hospital by their parents as a precaution, according to Finnerty.

The single-vehicle accident happened at 8:20 a.m. at Jarvis Street and Gruen Street, near Shell Road. The bus was on its way to Deep Creek Middle School at the time.

According to Chesapeake School spokesperson Tom Cupitt, the bus went into a ditch and tipped onto its side.

Police said it is unclear if weather contributed to the accident. It was raining at the time of the crash.
