CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A space heater is said to be the cause of a mattress fire inside a Chesapeake home early Friday morning.
Battalion Chief Mike Theibault with the Chesapeake Police Department told WAVY.com the call came in just after 2:30 a.m. for a fire at the corner of South Military Highway and Schaeffer Avenue. No one was injured.
According to Capt. Scott Saunders, a space heater was too close to a bed. Five people have been displaced as a result of the fire and will be staying with a relative.
The American Red Cross has been notified.
