CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - An RV was destroyed by fire outside a carpet store in Chesapeake on Thursday.
Firefighters said a pedestrian walked into a fire station around 7:34 p.m. to notify them of the fire.
About two minutes later, firefighters arrived at the store on 1329 S. Military Highway and encountered heavy flames coming from an RV parked outside the shop, Chesapeake Fire Department Capt. Mike Thibeault said.
The 26 foot RV had no motor, but firefighters were told someone was living there.
Firefighters conducted two searches of the RV and found no evidence of any victims. A rescue team will search the vehicle again just to make sure.
The fire destroyed the RV and the carpet shop sustained minor damage to the exterior and some interior smoke damage. The flames did not extend to the inside of the shop.
The cause remains under investigation.
