QVC to cut 606 call center jobs

Customer service team to stay

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - More than 600 people will soon be out of work as QVC cuts positions in their call center, according to a company spokesperson.

Paul Capelli, VP of Corporate Communications, told WAVY.com sales continue to grow in the company, however, they are seeing more orders being placed online. Because of this, they are cutting call center team members who take orders over the phone in Chesapeake.

Those who work less than 20 hours per week, about 230 workers, will be the first group to be phased out of the center between March and June of 2012.

Additionally, there are 109 full time workers and 263 part time workers who will be phased out of the center between March of 2012 and April of 2013.

Capelli said the company spoke with the team members this week to inform them of the positions that will be phased out. At this time, they are offering workers to stay with the company and work on a reduced schedule, or they have the option to take an immediate severance package.

That package includes separation pay where application, out-placement services and COBRA health benefits.

Capelli added the customer service team will remain as is.
