Pastor says church is in project's path

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) - The pastor of a Chesapeake church says a road-widening project may force his congregation to find a new home.

The city wants to extend a road from two to four lanes next to New Galilee Baptist Church and replace a bridge.

The church has been asked to sell all or a portion of its lot, but church leaders say neither offer was acceptable.

But the Rev. Anderson Foreman Jr. tells media outlets it's possible that the church will have to leave its 107-year history behind.

Church attorney Joseph Waldo says the current building was built in 1999, and trustees believe a church at another location can't be built for the $2 million the city offered for the entire property.
