CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A man has been displaced after his home suffered substantial damage in an early morning fire Wednesday.

Capt. Scott Saunders with the Chesapeake Fire Department said firefighters were dispatched to the 2300 block of Battlefield Boulevard around 4:45 a.m. Upon arrival 10 minutes later, crews found smoke showing from a two-story home.

The homeowner, an adult male, and his pets  were able to escape safely. No one was injured in the fire.

Saunders said the home sustained substantial damage and the homeowner will be staying elsewhere.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
