CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Chesapeake Police say an officer accidentally shot himself in the hand Wednesday night.

Ravi Sheth with the Chesapeake Police Department says the incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. at the Chesapeake Police Academy Firing Range.

Sheth says a round struck the officer in the hand before he had the chance to clear it. Sheth says the officer's injury was non-life threatening.
