CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Students at Greenbrier Intermediate School were taken to another school to escape the cold after someone called in a bomb threat Friday.

Tom Cupitt with Chesapeake Public Schools told WAVY.com the students were taken to Greenbrier Middle School while the school was searched.

According to Kelly O'Sullivan with the Chesapeake Police Department the threat was called in at approximately 10:30 a.m. by a person indicating there was a bomb in the school.

Because of the cold temperatures, the students were taken to Greenbrier Middle School, O'Sullivan said.

Students and staff returned to Greenbrier Intermediate just before 1 p.m. and the school was declared clear following a thorough search.

Some parents are expressing anger because they weren't immediately contacted about the incident, however, Cupitt said everyone was evacuated so quickly there wasn’t time to send an email to parents. The email was sent around 12:15 p.m.
