CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A strange odor forced a Chesapeake school to evacuate Friday morning.

Tom Cupitt, spokesman for Chesapeake Public Schools, told WAVY.com Carver Intermediate School on Broad Street was evacuated because of an odor of gas. Cupitt said sometimes when they start up the gas stoves, there is an odor.

The school was evacuated as a precaution. Students were outside for about 10 minutes as fire crews checked the building.
