CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A Chesapeake woman is feeling the pain after being bitten by a fox Friday morning. The woman is now undergoing a series of shots to prevent her from getting rabies.

Katie Britt lives on Priscilla Lane and came face to face with the fox while water her tomato plants.

She told WAVY.com, "I was watering my tomato plants. I saw him out the corner of my eye and I went 'woo' and squirted the hose and ran inside."

Britt has had a total of seven shots to prevent the potentially deadly disease. And may need more.

Animal control was called out, but couldn't find the fox. Then a fox, possibly the same one, came back.

Animal control used a snare pull to try and loop the foxes neck, but he wasn't having any of as he squirmed away.

But with the help of a neighbor, Animal control cornered the fox and got him.

The fox was put down, but was not tested for rabies because no one knows for sure if the fox that was caught was the same fox the woman encountered.

WAVY News 10 cameras were rolling when the fox was captured at around 1:30 p.m. Click on the video player on this page to see the capture unfold.

According to police spokesman Gus Mojica, this type of behavior is very unusual for a fox and may indicate rabies.
