CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Hours before concerned Chesapeake residents were set to speak out against a multi-million dollar Western Branch project, the developer withdrew his application.
The citizens have collected more than 1,600 signatures for a petition opposing the construction of the Breckinridge project. The site takes up 400 plus acres and is located off Portsmouth Boulevard and Joliff Road.
The residents against the project said the new homes and new neighbors would strain community resources.
A letter on behalf of Pine Grove, L.C. , dated Feb. 21, cites a similar concern, stating, "Level of Service considerations such as school capacity and consistency with the Comprehensive Plan have presented challenges with the application form."
City council is still expected to take up the matter at the Tuesday evening meeting at Chesapeake City Hall.
