CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Jim O'Sullivan was sworn in as Chesapeake's new sheriff Monday evening, replacing retired John Newhart who stayed on the job for 42 years.

"I am at the destination where I want, but the journey is all about learning and making yourself better, so the journey enabled me to be who I am at this point and to get to the destination as we move into the future," O'Sullivan said.

O'Sullivan has been with the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office for 18 years.
