CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - The driver of the truck that hit and killed a school crossing guard has been charged with reckless driving in the October 3 accident.
Police said crossing guard Lovette T. Person, 35, was hit by a Toyota Tundra driven by Tiare L. Blees, 32, outside Western Branch Intermediate School.
Person was at the intersection of Brittany Way and Terry Drive directing traffic. She was wearing a reflecting vest.
Police said Blees may have been distracted by the sun.
Person was transported to Norfolk General Hospital, where she later died. Person had been a crossing guard for just under 18 months.
Blees' charge is a misdemeanor offense.
