CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Chesapeake fire crews are on the scene of an apartment fire on Mill Creek Parkway in southern Deep Creek, near the Dismal Swamp.
Capt. Mike Thibeault said an automatic sprinkler system kept the fire under control until firefighters arrived.
One person was inside the 3rd floor apartment, when the fire broke out Friday afternoon. Capt. Thibeault said it started in a couch. The person who lived there got out safely and ran to a neighbor's house to call 911.
The fire only damaged the couch. There is water damage to three apartments, though, because the apartment sprinkler systems went off.
No word yet on what caused the fire.
