CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Police and fire crews responded to the outside set of lanes of I-64 eastbound at Greenbrier after a tractor trailer accident caused a fuel spill.
At around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Chesapeake Police and Virginia State Police responded to the accident scene. The outside set of lanes of I-64E at the Greenbrier exit closed while crews cleaned the fuel spill.
Police say a 1988 Kenmore wrecker truck towing a Food Lion cab tractor trailer overturned. The tractor and trailer remained upright, but the trailer separated from the tractor. Diesel fuel spilled onto two lanes of Interstate 64.
A HAZMAT cleanup crew was also involved in the fuel cleanup process.
The vehicle was driven by 55-year-old Robert Erwin Alsano. Police say alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
Alsano was charged with failure to maintain lane.
Police say there is no report of serious injuries.
