5 options on table for Gateway at SoNo

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Chesapeake City Council met Tuesday night and discussed what they could put in  the Gateway at SoNo building.

On June 30, council voted 9-0 to buy the Gateway property using general funds.

Kevin Anik with the South Norfolk Civic League said council looked at five different options for the building:

1. The Gateway at SoNo building would house the South Norfolk Memorial Library. All 17,000 square feet would be taken up by the library.
2. The library would be temporarily placed on the first floor of the building while a new one is built. The rest of the space on the first floor of the Gateway building woud go to WCTV, the Commissioner of Revenue, the Treasury Office and the Police Crime Unit. The second floor would be given to Parks and Recreation, Economic Development and Neighborhood Services.
3. The third option is almost the same as the second, but instead of housing the library temporarily that space would be for WCTV.
4. The next option would lease the space to retail stores, professionals and small businesses. An outside commercial real estate broker would lease and manage the space.
5. The final plan would place city agencies that are currently leasing office space in the Gateway building.
