CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A construction accident at the new Jordan Bridge in Chesapeake Thursday has closed the Elizabeth River Park and Boat Ramp on Poindexter Street until further notice.
Shortly after 4 p.m., contractors were placing a section of concrete to make up the road for the bridge, when it landed onto railroad tracks underneath the bridge.
Chesapeake Police spokesman Capt. Scott Saunders said four people received minor injuries; they did not require hospitalization.
"Our first priority is to take care of all of our staff, assess the situation and regain access to the site so we can develop and action plan on what to do next," Robin Magrisi said on if this would delay the opening of the bridge.
In a statement, the general manager of the bridge project, Kevin Crum, said "the completion schedule is being evaluated" and that the company is working with the Norfolk and Portsmouth Beltline Railroad Company to repair the tracks.
