CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Two deputies who were supposed to be supervising inmates at the Chesapeake Correctional Center on June 11 when an inmate escaped have been fired, according to an internal investigation conducted by the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office.

Clancy D. Starling, Jr., escaped during open recreation time at 2:30 p.m. on Monday,  June 11. No one noticed that Starling was unaccounted for until a headcount the following morning at 6 a.m.

According to Sergeant David Rosado with the Sheriff's Department, deputies who were in charge of the headcount on Monday evening were administratively disciplined.

Police say four men who aided Starling in his escape will be facing an additional 1-5 year sentence .

Rosado says there will be no change in the policy or procedure in the Sheriff's Office.

As of Wednesday, June 13 Starling has yet to be found.
