CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A 13-year-old boy was arraigned in court Thursday morning on a manslaughter charge in the shooting death of 12-year-old Carolyn Walker of Chesapeake. The suspect is due back in court Feb. 1.

Police say the boy shot Walker around 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Owens Village Apartment Complex on Geneva Avenue. Walker's mother says Carolyn was shot in the head during a game of 'Russian Roulette'.

Walker was a sixth grader at Deep Creek Middle School. Neighbors say the suspect was also a student there.

Police will not give WAVY.com access to the original police report, stating it is part of a current investigation.

But the Walker family and the community want answers.

The suspect's grandmother told WAVY.com Wednesday she does not know how the boy got the gun. She told the WAVY.com crew to come back later.

WAVY.com knocked on her door repeatedly Thursday, but there was no answer.

Meanwhile, other parents in the neighborhood are keeping their kids closer to home after Walker's death.

Friends and family continue to pile stuffed animals, balloons and notes at the scene. The Walker family will hold a candlelight vigil at the memorial Friday at sunset.

Walker's funeral is scheduled for Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. at Metropolitan Funeral Service in Norfolk.

The family put donation jars at the BP gas station and 7-Eleven on Gilmerton Road to raise money for funeral expenses.
