CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Some Chesapeake Preschoolers found a great way to help those less fortunate Thursday. Preschoolers from the Primrose School at Cahoon Commons, made a field trip to Farm Fresh on Nov. 19 to buy food for a local charity.

Children from Primrose Schools nationwide have spent the past month earning money for their shopping trips by completing extra chores at home.

"They love helping other children and other people that need it", said Primrose teacher Jen Duke.

The students recently pooled their money and created detailed shopping lists to follow at the grocery store.

It's all part of the school's Caring and Giving program. The program helps students understand the value of generosity and creates a hands-on approach to math, nutrition and planning skills.

Purchases will be donated to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. The foodbank has been in dire need this year due to the economy, and even more so now due to the recent nor'easter.
