CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Shortly after 10 a.m. Monday morning, Chesapeake police responded to a fatal industrial accident at Cahoon Plantation Golf Course .
Michael Costa, 42 of Camden, N.C., was pronounced dead on the scene as a result of a grounds maintenance equipment accident.
The maintenance superintendent was working on the course at the Cahoon Plantation Golf Course off Cedar Road, when a large piece of equipment rolled over him.
"Those who have played Cahoon know how good of condition it is. It's in that condition because of Mike," said Dan Shea, the Director of Golf at Cahoon Plantation Golf Course.
According to Chesapeake Police, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been contacted and is investigating this incident, along with police.
"There's nothing that we can do or say. I can assure you one thing. We'll definitely have a fund raiser coming out for his kids. But it hasn't been an easy day," added Shea.
Details on how the accident happened are not being released at the time.
