Business owner catches thief on tape

Pest control company targeted several times

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Robert Haddox is tired of being a target. Saturday night someone stole his Bri-Mar dumping trailer, valued at about $6,000.

Haddox says the neighboring landscape company has had problems too.

"He was losing gasoline, tools, all kinds of odds and ends things," he said.

Less than a year ago, the owner of Newell's Lawn and Landscaping installed three security cameras. The cameras captured Haddox's thief on tape, taking his time.

"You see him going over there and busting the actual lock off and takes it and puts it back in his truck and throws the lock back inside there," said Haddox as he watched the video on his computer.

Twenty-seven minutes later, he was driving off with Haddox's trailer.

Since he moved his Global Pest Services company to a different location two years ago, it's the second trailer he has lost.

"February of this year, the Chesapeake sheriff's deputy came by and stole the plates off my vehicle and used them in a bank robbery."

That former deputy is John Keane. He pleaded guilty nearly two weeks ago to robbing a bank. He will be sentenced in August.

Haddox hopes the surveillance video taken of the suspect Saturday leads police to the thief and maybe both trailers.

"He just doesn't care about what he's doing, he doesn't care about who he's hurting," he said. "We're out here working hard, trying to make a living and he pulls up like it's a normal job."

Haddox believes the thief's truck is a 2003 to 2005 red Toyota 4-Runner. It has a sunroof and luggage rack.

The license plate for the Bri-Mar trailer is 205851-TL.

If you recognize the man pictured to the left or see the trailer, call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
