Bull on the loose has drivers on edge

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - An electronic sign is warning drivers in James City County of an unusual road hazard. There is a bull on the loose.

The Police Department started receiving calls about sightings on March 3. Drivers reported almost hitting the animal along Forge Road.

Officers tracked down the owner who explained that two of his bulls somehow broke free from a farm on Forge Road.

On March 4, one of the bulls was captured and euthanized. The other bull is still on the run and weighs between 900 and 1,200 pounds.

According to Police Major Steve Rubino, the owner asked the fire department to alert motorists about the bull. He said it tends to come out at night and he is afraid someone will crash into the animal or try to approach it.

"You'd never think a bull be running down the streets in Toano," James City County resident Scott Kehoe said. "I'd run in the house and peek out the window!"
