Board to certify election results

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Republican sweep in Virginia is about to become official.

The State Board of Elections meets Monday afternoon to certify results of the Nov. 3 general election. All three statewide GOP candidates won handily, so the process will lack the drama of 2005, when the election for attorney general was the closest in modern Virginia history.

There is one similarly close race, but on a smaller scale. Republican Ron Villanueva holds an unofficial 14-vote edge over Democratic incumbent Bobby Matheison in a House of Delegates race in Virginia Beach. That's close enough for a taxpayer-financed recount.
