BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) - Residents in Bertie County are getting some relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene.
On Saturday, those affected by the hurricane and the April tornadoes got donations from the community.
The Bertie Relief and Recovery Team distributed clothing, kitchen items, toiletries and toys to families who lost everything.
There were even furniture and holiday decorations.
People were given large trash bags to fill up on everything they needed.
"The donations came from all over the state and all over the country. They came in for several weeks and then we brought them to this building, and these wonderful volunteers that we have spent three months, literally three months, going through each of the bags of clothes and sorting it," said Misty Deanes with Emergency Management.
Saturday was the last day to receive the donated items.
If you are a Bertie or Hertford County resident and you still need assistance, contact Bertie County Emergency Services.
