CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - Chesapeake police have made an arrest in a hit and run from Monday night, where the suspect allegedly struck a bicyclist in the 800 block of South Military Highway.

Shawn Webber, 39, of the 1300 block of 21st Street in Chesapeake was taken into custody and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony hit and run, and driving after having been adjudicated as a habitual offender, police said.

On Monday night, police arrived on the scene and found the 52-year-old male bicyclist--who was not wearing a helmet at the time--suffering from numerous injuries. He was brought to a local trauma unit and treated for broken bones, lacerations and bruising, police said. Police say the injuries are non-life threatening, but will require surgery.

Police say the bicyclist was traveling southbound on the far right lane of South Military Highway when the suspect allegedly struck him in a gray or silver Chevrolet pick up truck. The suspect fled the scene down Indian River Road toward Chesapeake.
